Clarins The Essentials Palette

Swatches of the Clarins The Essentials Palette

This was a recent purchase from a blog sale, so no I've not been randomly hoarding it for months. I don't know why I didn't buy the Clarins The Essentials Palette in the first place, it's obviously a thing of beauty. The palette contains 10 shades of neutral eyeshadows, which range from ligther shades ideal for use as inner corner highlights and bases - to slightly warmer darker shades that are ideal for use all over the lid, and in the outer corner/crease.

I've been really impressed with what is actually my first Clarins eye makeup product. The formula of each shade, minus the palest matte shade, is fabulous. They're creamy, but not overly buttery and work onto the eyes without any fallout. I've been able to create a variety of looks with this palette - from a subtle everyday look to a more dramatic smokey eye. Apart from the first shade, which is just a tad chalky, they all have excellent pigmentation, and are very much on par with the likes of Urban Decay.

I have a particular soft spot for shade 10, which is a lovely dark brown taupe-ish shade. I like it because it adds some smoke without being too black, or too warm, which is suits me more than a bronzey based attempt. Wear time with the eyeshadows is amazing, they last the whole day with creasing or causing a fuss. I think this palette was £35 when you could still buy it - and it's worth every penny of that £35, minus the slightly disappointing first shade.

If you can grab this in a blog sale, or indeed from anywhere, then do it. You won't regret it if you're a massive neutral eyeshadow fan like me!

  1. I bought this from a blog sale too and absolutely adore it! I think it's quite a "grown up" palette - the shimmer isn't over the top at all. xx
